    Hi John-

What is the condo market like in downtown Charleston - I have done Google searches for condos but they all seem to be outside of the city in the suburbs.  I'm interested in a condo with some character (not a cookie cutter) and possibly garage parking.  Is there a decent condo market in downtown Charleston, not N. Charleston?

Photos would be greatly appreciated too!

    Hey!  (Local salutation)

Lots of condos and townhomes to choose from - with and without parking.

Downtown Charleston - over 300 condos and townhomes to choose from - all price ranges - mostly older buildings (which isn't a negative to me) - many with lots of character - and many on the pricey side.

Mount Pleasant, James Island, Johns Island, Daniels Island, Isle of Palms, Summerville - plenty of nice areas to choose from - very close to downtown Charleston.

Where are you relocating from?  Will this be your 1st or 2nd home?  Want to sell your current home first?

Working or retired?  How many bedrooms?  Need an elevator?  Time frame?

What do you do for fun?  Golf?  Boating?  Surf?  Sports fan?

Spent any time in the Charleston area?  Would you like a relocation packet?

Budget?  Would you like to talk to a lender?

    Time frame?

Sorry for all the questions...the more info we have, the better job we can do for you.

If you send your interests and contact info to jon@brilliantre.com, we'll set you up on an automatic search.

Charleston rocks, btw.  Robert Cray is playing at the Charleston Music Hall next month - front row seats!

www.CharlestonMusicHall.com (I've seen Keb Mo and Taj Mahal there too.)

Chazzfest is this weekend on Daniels Island - www.chazzfest.com

Don't get me started on recommending restaurants...but I digress...

We look forward to helping you call Charleston 'home'!

Thanks for the detailed response, Jon!

I'm glad to hear that there are lots of condos in downtown and I'm a big fan of older buildings, I like exposed brick and beams, high ceilings and in general just buildings with character (which new buildings really really lack).

I'm relocating from New England (sick of the cold weather and big dig!), Im working and am looking for a 1 bedroom + den or 2 bedroom, still debating.  I was in Charleston for a few days this summer, stayed at the Andrew Pickney Inn and loved the city, very relaxed but lots to do and beautiful.  Im probably looking in the $300-350K range but am not ready for a relocation packet yet..oprobably waiting till next Spring.

I'll definitely be in touch either here or through your e-mail in the coming months as my decision becomes more permanent.   What I've heard from you (and what I saw when I was done there) Charleston is a top contender.

    Thanks again.

I like the older warehouse/school house look, something similar to this:

If you have links/photos to any condos that may be similar I would appreciate it.

    Baja Carolina rocks!

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Food for thought:

I grew up in the Northeast (PA, NJ, CT, upper and lower state NY), lived in the midwest (Chicago - 'burbs and downtown - and Milwaukee) and have visited just about every state - especially along the coasts, wherever there are boats.

The first time I visited the Charleston area - @ 10 years ago - I knew this was the place for me (and decided to move five minutes off the plane).

    Why?

Weather.  We are right in the middle - in a good way.

Hate long dreary, cold, slushy winters?  No worries - I've seen snow 3 times in 10 years. We have @ 2 months of slightly chilly weather - January and February.  March starts cold, ends warm.  It is not uncommon to be in shorts on Christmas on News Years day.  Our local polar bear swim on Sullivan's Island finds 100's in the water - air and water temp usually in the 40's. Unless you're a local, we have 12 month boating and golfing season.

Summers (mid July - mid September) are hot and humid, but there is consistent sea breeze. The poor folks in Florida have the same weather for 6+ months - doh!  Boating or vacationing in the TN mountains in August is a good remedy.  Looong Spring and really long Fall.

Water everywhere!  Ocean, intercoastal, Charleston Harbor, rivers, lakes, ponds, saltwater marshes.  We have flounder and blue crabs - shrimp, dolphins and alligators.  Palm trees and pelicans too!

People!  This is one of the few places where the people are as nice as they are in the Midwest..  All the kids say 'yes maam', 'no sir' - everyone has great manners.  When just about everyone someone you do not know gives you the raised hand 'hey!' wave - it's ok.  Be careful not to respond with a vigorous back and forth wave - this means you want to stop and talk.

Pace.  Slow down and enjoy the show.  Compared to just about anywhere else - the traffic is minimal.  Life can be a bit quirky here - in a fun and entertaining way.  I think the moniker 'Baja Carolina' fits perfectly.

Charleston can be described as the capital of the south - in a good way.  I enjoy the mix of local traditions with the blend of people from 'away'.  I didn't realize I was a 'yankee' until I moved here.  When a local asks you 'where you from?' - just answer with '(ma'am or sir), I may not be from around here, but I got here as fast as I could'.  Once you get too far away from Charleston - you're kinda in Alabama..  Myrtle Beach, Beaufort, Hilton Head and Savannah are nice places to visit, but I'd recommend Charleston first.  One note - it is probably best not to say 'where I'm from we do things this way' - this phrase is heard a lot and rarely changes anything.

Many gents take their dogs to work - and many folks go to lunch on Friday, and don't make it back to the office until Monday morning...especially during boating season - which is almost all year.

There is always something fun going on in Charleston - and this is the prefect home port - a day's ride to the Florida Keys, a few hours from the TN mountain, commuter flight to the Northeast.

Lastly - tons of great restaurants!  Don't get me started - that's a whole post onto itself..

One word of caution - once you live in paradise, friends and family will want to visit - often and a lot!

    Downtown Charleston Condos

For 'classic' units - downtown is probably your best bet.

There are currently 26 townhomes and condos for sale 'on the peninsula' in the $300 - $375 range.

If you send your email address to jon@BrilliantRE.com, we can set up up on an automatic email - new listings, price changes - daily or weekly.  And we can change your search parameters if your interests change over time.

If you find a unit or 3 which really trip your trigger, we will gladly preview on your behalf.

We probably should not put images of other agents' listings on this forum without their permission, but our automatic listing email service will provide almost everything you would want to research. (Listings, images, virtual tours, maps - very cool.)

    Wow!

Thanks again Jon...I'll get an e-mail to you sometime today or this weekend we can setup an automatic listing e-mail, that would be great.

Thanks for all the advice, I might have to pick your brain on restaurants too!
